The Legend of Palaimon
Palaimon, a sea god in Greek mythology, was once a mortal child known as Melikertes.
He and his mother, Ino, leapt into the sea after succumbing to the wrath of Zeus’s wife, Hera, the reigning goddess of Olympus.
Out of sympathy, Zeus transformed Melikertes into the sea god Palaimon, who became known for aiding sailors in distress and those beset by storms. He was also said to carry the key of calm waters.
Palaimon was depicted as a boy, usually in the company of Poseidon, seated upon the back of a dolphin.
