Chain of Custody is the unbroken path (supply chain) that a certified product takes from the forest of origin to the customer, including all stages of manufacturing, and distribution. It means:

• Certified material is clearly identified and segregated.
• Accounting of certified material is done correctly.

CoC Certification assures buyers and customers that the certified material is purchased from a sustainable and well-managed forest. This means:

• Efficient wood utilization
• Sustainable harvesting (providing harvest does not exceed regeneration)
• Careful and efficient logging practices
• Careful wildlife management and protection
• Worker safety
• Pollution protection
• Protection of rare plants and their habitats
• Respect for the traditional life and rights of indigenous peoples living in forested areas
